The clients for this project were looking to relocate their existing Oak Park service facility to an existing re-purposed service station in Berwyn. We were approached to reconfigure the site and redesign the existing building to accommodate 2 additional service bays. The original zoning for the site was for commercial use and was recently rezoned residential. Our task was to submit our proposed design and site reconfiguration to the city of Berwyn for a variance of use.

The original building was metal paneled Standard service station. The client directed us to utilize the office area for the provision of an additional service bay. The office was relocated to a new addition to the north of the structure. An additional bay was provided to south of the existing structure in order to accommodate truck service. The entire site was reconfigured to provide additional parking at the rear which would be available to the neighborhood as rental parking. Drainage for the site was addressed with underground detention in this rear parking area

The goal for the appearance of the structure was to maintain and restore the look of the original Standard station. The new additions would be clad in glazed masonry in keeping with the service stations of the era and better integrate in the overall aesthetic.

This project was unrealized as the client found a location which better suited their needs.
